Purple Tuesday 2024

11th Nov 2024

Each year in November, Purple Tuesday is held to celebrate and raise awareness of access and inclusion. This year, the event is on Tuesday, 12th November.

The initiative was started in 2018 by Mike Adams with the aim to inspire change within organisations, not only raising awareness and understanding, but implementing solutions to improve accessibility for disabled customers. Each year, organisations that participate publicly commit to improving access and inclusion to ensure a better experience for the disabled community. Previous years have been a great success and now events are held not only in the UK, but the USA, UAE, South East Asia and Pakistan.

The Changing Places toilet consortium supports this initiative, as like our campaign, it recognises the importance of access and inclusion. Without Changing Places toilets, many disabled people as well as their families and carers, cannot access their community, attend events, visit venues and travel around the country. Implementing solutions to ensure good access and inclusion is not only the right thing to do - it also makes good business sense. There are 16.1 million disabled people in the UK representing 24% of the population, and the spending power of these people and their household in the UK is worth a whopping £249bn.

Purple Tuesday asks businesses to make one commitment to ensuring that their venue or services are more inclusive and accessible. This Purple Tuesday, we are calling on venues to install Changing Places toilets. You can help us by tagging venues on our social media that you would like to visit but can’t because they do not have a toilet that meets your needs.
