Oct 2016 - Monthly Update
Football and Trailblazers
This month has seen the highest amount of Changing Places registrations this year with 15 new facilities on the national map and register.
The highlight of the month has to be the registration of the Changing Places facility at Manchester City FC as we continue our 10 year campaign for Changing Places to be installed at all Premier League Football Clubs and other stadia across the UK. Four more clubs have committed to installing so far and we look forward to at least two more registrations this month.
Our work with the government (who funded the new national map and official Changing Places register) has increased and the new Minister for Disabled People, Penny Mordaunt MP has made it clear to all Premier League Clubs that they should be installing Changing Places by the end of the season.
The Changing Places Consortium was represented on the panel at Trailblazers’ All Party Parliamentary Group debate in Westminster championing the need for Changing Places at all spectator sports venues.
We are very proud to be working with Trailblazers on this topic as a highly respected organisation in the field of disability. Trailblazers work in the past few years around travel and transport, along with the support of campaigners across the UK, has lead to the increase of Changing Places at motorway service stations across the country.
Sport continues to be the theme as we will be visiting a major national cricket ground in November and continue to work with the Lawn Tennis Association as they look to provide Changing Places at their major sporting events.
We continue to work with our campaign sponsors Aveso to provide information and support for new and existing campaigners across the UK.
World Toilet Day is fast approaching (19h November) and consortium members Pamis are working with Mobiloo in Scotland to celebrate this event.
There are now 892 Changing Places toilets listed on the current map.
