New Changing Places Facility coming soon to Peterborough
Work has started on a new city centre toilet facility in Peterborough which will help meet the specialised needs of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. The Changing Places facility is being added as an extension to the existing toilets in Car Haven, behind the Town Hall, which recently won a five-star Loo of the Year 2010 award.
The £60,000 facility is a joint project between Peterborough City Council's adult social care, children's services, neighbourhoods and property design and maintenance teams. It has the support of the Learning Disability Partnership Board and Peterborough Disability Forum.
Councillor Diane Lamb, the city council's cabinet member for health and adult social care, said: "This is a much needed city centre facility for the growing number of adults with personal care needs and children with disabilities. These groups can feel socially excluded when they are out and about because the specialist equipment required to meet their needs isn't widely available. We are delighted that work will soon be underway to develop such a facility in Peterborough city centre."
