We are delighted that it has been announced that our co-chairs, Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK), will be working with the Department for Transport to allocate £2 million of funding for Changing Places toilets to be installed at motorway service stations across England.

 

The funding was announced as part of the government’s Inclusive Transport Strategy, which aims to provide equal access to the transport network by 2030.

 

“We welcome the Department for Transport’s investment in Changing Places toilets at motorway service stations across England. By building more Changing Places across the road network, disabled people and their families can travel in the knowledge there will be fully accessible toilets they can use safely and with dignity.

 

Investing in Changing Places toilets means we can tackle the exclusion many disabled people face. We look forward to working in partnership with the Department for Transport and our campaigners in delivering this project.”

 

We would like to say a big thank you to all the campaigners who have worked so hard to make the issue of Changing Places at service stations a Government priority. Particular recognition must go to Tony Clough who has been campaigning on this issue for many years and to Zack Kerr whose hugely successful Change.org petition caught the attention of the Government and service provider- both campaigners have played a vital role in increasing awareness and provision of Changing Places toilets at service stations. We hope that this money will now see Changing Places toilets installed across the English network.
