Derbyshire Changing Places
A Changing Places facility has been installed at Elvaston Castle Country Park. It has been added to the current toilet facilities which helps improve the opportunities for disabled children and young people to become involved in leisure, sport and play activities. A Changing Places toilet has also been added to the current facilities at Cromford Wharf along with a new accessible toilet and family toilet with baby changing facility. And there is also a Changing Places facility at another one of its countryside sites, Shipley Country Park. Councillor Andy Botham, deputy cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport, said:
"Many disabled people cannot use standard accessible toilets so it is important we make sure that everyone is able to enjoy days out in Derbyshire. We have already fitted various Changing Places toilets across Derbyshire and we hope these new facilities will allow more people to visit Elvaston Castle Country Park and Cromford Wharf."
There are 13 Changing Places facilities in Derbyshire in total which are available at the Genesis Centre in Alfreton, Oakland Village in Swadlincote, Carter Lane Day Centre in Shirebrook, Arc Leisure Centre in Matlock, Queens Park Leisure Centre in Chesterfield, Westfield Centre in Derby City, The Hub in South Normanton, Ashbourne Library, Parkwood Day Centre in Alfreton, Lea Green's Meadow Lodge, near Matlock and County Hall in Matlock.
Each Changing Places toilet provides specialised equipment including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist. There is also a mobile Changing Places toilet which was funded by Aiming High and is available for use at events around the county and can be hired by contacting David Birkin on 01629 532193.
