It’s been another great year for the Changing Places toilet(CPT) campaign, and we’d like to begin by saying a BIG thank you to all of our amazing campaigners and suppliers for your support as well as relevant government departments and venues that have installed these life-changing facilities. We would not be where we are today without your amazing support.
This year has seen an incredible total of 414 CPTs installed across the UK. This is the highest number of annual registrations ever. There are now 2546 registered Changing Places toilets across the UK.
Notable registrations have included Butlin’s, Marks & Spencer, New Forestry England, P&O Ferries, the National Trust England and Lloyds Bank.
MHCLG funding programme for Local Authorities
The capital fund for building CPTs was launched in England in 2022 to address the lack of provision nationally. Round one of the Government funding in England saw expressions of interest from 191 Local Authorities. Round two opened in 2023 and focused on Local Authorities that were identified as having the most need. 64 Local Authorities applied. This program of installations has resulted in over 300 new CPTs in England.
DFT Funding Program for Transport Networks.
This Government funded program has now seen over 50 CPTs installed within motorway service stations across England. We will be sharing the locations of these facilities with you over the coming weeks.
Changing Places Toilets Development Programme Update inScotland
At end of 2023, PAMIS welcomed the opportunity to meet with Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport, Maree Todd to discuss the Changing Places toilet programme for Scotland as well as the development of a new dedicated fund to increase the number of Changing Places toilets across the country. The Scottish Government’s £10million investment in Changing Places toilets was initially announced in the Programme for Government 2021-2022 with a view to increasing the number of facilities in Scotland and support the development of mobile Changing Places toilets to improve accessibility at outdoor events and venues. This new funding programme will launch in2025 and PAMIS will continue to liaise with and support the Scottish Government with this whilst continuing to support local communities to install more CPTs.
Finally…
Conversations are continuing with venues and organisations, and as always, our campaigners have been busy speaking to venues, persuading them to install Changing Places toilets and raising awareness. Along with the important legislative changes in Northern Ireland and Wales there has been incredible progress in creating new CPTs and there are now 94 in Wales and 67 in Northern Ireland and we have reviewed a number of exciting plans at key venues for upcoming CPTs and look forward to seeing these become reality in 2025.
