Bradford City Council and DisabledGo share Changing Places success

A celebration of Bradford City Council’s leadership in the provision of public Changing Places toilets recently took place at Keighley leisure centre, one of the eight venues in Bradford which boasts a Changing Places toilet.

The event also saw the launch of a new version of DisabledGo’s access guides. DisabledGo aims to provide access information to empower disabled people to enjoy their communities and make their contribution. Their access guides will now include information about whether venues provide a Changing Places toilet.

Chair of the Changing Places Consortium, Beverley Dawkins, said:

“Changing Places toilets have made such a difference to the lives of many disabled people, including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities, as they give them more freedom to take part in activities in their community. Bradford has made a real effort to install Changing Places toilets across the city which is fantastic.

“We are also delighted that DisabledGo have added their support to the campaign. Their comprehensive access guides will enable disabled people to check whether venues provide a Changing Places toilet and can meet their other access needs in advance of their visit. DisabledGo will also help to raise awareness of the need for Changing Places toilets by questioning venues about whether they provide this facility.”

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, executive member for environment and culture at Bradford City Council said:
