More Changing Places toilets for hospitals in England

It has been announced today that ten hospital Trusts in England will receive a share of £500,000 from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). This will translate into 16 new Changing Places toilets being installed at hospitals across the ten Trusts.

The DHSC announced in 2018 that it would provide £2 million for Changing Places toilets to be installed in Trusts across England. This marks the first round of successful bids.

There are currently just 55 hospitals in England with a registered Changing Places toilet (accounting for 59 toilets in total as Alder Hey and GOSH have more than one).

Applications are now open for the next round of funding, with nearly £1.5 million still available to NHS Trusts.

Which hospitals have received funding?

The following NHS Trusts have received a share of the funding so far. Some Trusts have been successful in applying for more than one Changing Places toilet to be installed.

  1. Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
  2. University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
  3. Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust
  4. Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  5. Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  6. Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
  7. United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust
  8. West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust
  9. Lancashire Teaching Hospitals
  10. Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

What happens next?

The hospitals that have successfully applied for funding will install their facilities, which will then be registered and listed on the map. Meanwhile, NHS Trusts in England are still able to apply for funding to install Changing Places toilets. If you know of a hospital that could benefit from the funding please encourage them to apply. Thank you to everyone who has already done such a brilliant job of promoting the funding any encouraging hospitals to apply.
